About the event
You are invited to a community dye circle celebrating Indigo and the“They Did Not Know We Were Seeds,” public art installation an located on the grounds of the Parker Hill Branch of the Boston Public Library. Created by Tanya Nixon-Silberg. This circle will be a time for reflection, celebration and art-making.
In respect to the history of indigo and the connections between our ancestral past and our lived past, we will be using material that celebrates Blackness. So, if you remember the smell of Blue Magic hair grease, sitting between the thighs of your momma, auntie, or Sister Peaches down the street, and the sound of barrettes snapping into place at the end of wash day, this Indigo dye circle is for you. This circle is open to all and the experiences and needs of Black womxn will be centered.
